Dillon's Birthday and Fesivus

Dillon's birthday always falls during finals week, which makes celebrating it difficult. This year it happened to fall on the first day of finals. He flat out refused to do any big celebration on his actual birthday and even didn't want to do a big dinner the day before (Sunday). So we waited until the Sunday after finals to go over to my moms for a big meal and to celebrate properly.

My mom got these GIANT steaks (probably one of the best I have ever had) and green beans. I was in charge of the twice-baked potatoes (which I made a huge batch of to freeze and have for weeks, yay) rolls, and tangerines. The spread was amazing and everything tasted so good. We probably set the bar too high for Christmas dinner, but Dillon was delighted!

After dinner I took my first solo crack at making Dillon's famous choco flan. It's a recipe he learned on his mission. It's like a chocolate cake with flan on top. We made it on our first date, and so it's kind of a tradition now. Well gratefully it turned out well with out any help (there's a weird step of floating pans inside each other in water...) and we sang to the birthday boy.

On the 23rd our great friends Camm and Miriam Clark invited us over for a Festivus celebration! (If you've seen that episode of Seinfeld you know what I'm talking about.) It was so much fun. In all there were 5 couples and 4 babies under 13 months plus our little bun in the oven. We had the airing of greivances, the Festivus pole (they even covered their Christmas tree) and of course the feats of strength. We opted against wrestling and settled for arm wrestling instead.

So far a great start to our Christmas break!

  1. Hahaha. Camm looks like he's in so much pain in this picture--as Brandon is just smiling. Oh, what a fun night.
    Happy birthday to Dillon!
