T-Wolves Game, Chinese New Year & Baby Drama

Being back at school and work keeps us very busy. Dillon and I leave the house at 7:30am and get back at 8:30pm. This gives us an hour before school/work to spend together and an hour together after before bedtime. Needless to say I miss my husband. I'm lucky to get to have our son with me all day though and his little kicks remind me why it's all worth it.

Since we see each other so rarely during the week the weekends are even more fun (although we still work and study on Saturday). This month we've gotten to do a temple trip with my cousin Sam and his awesome wife Vanessa. After it was really late so we all came back to our place for frozen pizza and Settlers of Catan (which I won!). We've also gotten to do a bunch of other great dates just the two of us and also some with friends.

A Buffalo Wild Wings just opened up in American Fork by my Mom's so last Friday Dillon and I used a gift card he got for his birthday to get some wings. That Saturday we picked Tori and her friend Harrison up and went to the new Culvers in that area too (we rarely eat out but the two new restaurants that remind us of home had to be hit). After dinner the 4 of us went up to Salt Lake to watch the Timberwolves play the Jazz.

There was a big group of fellow Maple Grove guys at the game too, although we sat 2 sections over for them. It was so funny to see them all explode out of their seats every time Rubio made a sick no look pass. Even though we lost, it was a really fun night.

This Monday was Chinese New Year. Our friends Miriam and Camm Clark have made it one of their New Year's resolutions to celebrate every holiday this year. So they had us over that night. Miriam ordered Chinese food and made Chinese lanterns- it was so cute! I know sushi is Japanese but I've wanted to try making some for a while now, so I figured it was close enough and made a bunch for the celebration.

It turned out really good, although being pregnant meant no raw fish. I don't think I'll ever pay for sushi again I'll just make it. I also made dessert sushi. I rolled out rice crispy bars and spread chocolate and peanut butter over it before rolling it up. The chocolate I used was too warm so it bled through the rice crispies instead of coming out in cute swirls, but it tasted great. Dillon says next time we make it would should use Swedish fish too, haha!

On a less exciting note I've had to switch doctors. This Sunday morning I was having some pretty painful cramping and it lasted all through the night until Monday afternoon. I still have no idea what it was. Right now we're thinking some kind of kidney infection, really nasty Braxton-Hicks contractions, or just muscle spasms. They came about every hour or so and were pretty debilitating. On Sunday I was in pain but not overly worried. When they kept up on Monday during teaching I was starting to get concerned.

So I called my doctor at their new office before classes began at 8am- I was put on hold. I tried back between each of my 5 classes with the same result. After school I called 5 different numbers and spend 25 minutes on hold but still did not get to talk to anyone in their office. I called the number on the card I received the week before, was transferred to their office line by their Provo office, called both numbers on their website... nothing.

I wasn't so much in pain as I was mad at that point. I lost it. I was crying hysterically and so mad that this office which had treated me horribly before on several occasions was completely unreachable for hours and hours when I needed them. After FINALLY getting one of the nurses on the line I started to explain the discomfort I was feeling. She didn't let me finish a sentence before she told me to go to labor and delivery at Utah Valley (not the hospital I was going to deliver at or even the one right next to their office). I was in shock she wouldn't even let me tell her what I was feeling she seemed disinterested and unsympathetic and clearly just didn't want to be dealing with me (if I had thought she had heard me out and wanted me to go for mine and Vince's own good I would have gone, but she was just blowing me off).

Dillon came home to comfort me and took me in to my doctors office. I was not allowed to see my doctor, instead I saw the same nurse who blew me off over the phone. Again she would not let me even explain the cramps she blew us off again. It was nice to have Dillon right there witnessing the whole scene so he could share my outrage at the treatment we were receiving.

We walked out of the office and hadn't left the parking lot before I was on the phone with the insurance company changing doctors. I had been going to a midwife clinic because I was lead to believe I would get my personalized treatment and more control... not so much. I could tell so many stories about how horrible my experiences were there but I don't want to dwell on it so lets just say I am delighted to be moving on. Now I'll deliver at Utah Valley (just 1/2 mile from our house and where I was born) and I have a new Doctor (and a real doctor) who I'll meet next Friday.

Winter Semester

As we've been settling into our schedule again after break, we though we'd keep our friends and family posted. Classes started a few weeks ago and both Dillon and I are taking a full load of classes at BYU. It's a biter irony to be the pregnant woman in class- and slightly awkward too. Dillon is still tutoring at Discovery Ranch and I'm still teaching at Liahona which keeps us both very busy.

We have some really really great friends and family out here in Utah, so we've made it a New Year's resolution to find time to hang out with them more often. It started with a birthday date with our former landlady Liz Sartori. We beyond loved living in her home and have missed her since we moved. She recently celebrated her 70th birthday, so we took her to dinner to celebrate with her.

My mom's brother Uncle Tim and his son Beau were in town last weekend. I haven't seen Uncle Tim in like 4 or 5 years, and it has probably been well over 10 years since I've seen Beau. It was really fun to get to spend time with them, just playing games and hiking. On Sunday we went up in the backside of Mount Timp and took a long hike up by Aspen Grove. It was just warm enough to be beautiful, and not too much snow that we couldn't hike anywhere.

One of the views on our hike. We took a trail above the
river and for a while it hugged a huge drop off.

Dillon, Me, Tori and Beau on our hike.

We had a blast playing games especially UNO Attack
(PJ's favorite) and of course the dice game. As always, it got intense.

Right after Christmas we had our 20 week ultrasound. It was exciting because about two weeks before that I started feeling our little prince move- yes I cried and cried with joy when I felt it. Everything checked out great on the ultrasound. At one point we saw him kick and I felt it too! He was adorable yawning and moving his hands from his knee to his cheek mid yawn.

The doctor said he was measuring a week and a half bigger than my estimated due date so he'll be coming sooner (personally I think I'm even further along than that). We were so happy to find out he's coming sooner! Also Dillon has been able to feel him move a few times. Lately he has been kicking so hard it shocks me. It's going to be an interesting next 3 and a half months as he keeps getting stronger.

This is our little man looking to the right with his
hands between his knees.

Baby bump at 24 weeks.
